Seward County to hold special election for $25 million school bond issue

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – A special election is in the works after the Seward Public School District proposed a $25 million bond issue.

The school board unanimously voted to move forward with it on Monday.

Now, a special election will be held on Feb. 10 for the public to decide.

The money would go toward improvements in safety and security, as well as renovations.

It would also improve some sports facilities.

Ryne Seaman is the school board president. He said the project would make an impact on many areas of the curriculum.

“We’re looking to build a new science wing, and we’re also looking to do something in the music department as well,” Seaman said.

But to make these changes, the district needs public funding.

Superintendent Josh Fields said the board has been taking community input for many months now.

Seaman said the project has been a work in progress for a long time.

“Obviously, as a board and as a whole community, we’ve been working towards this,” he said. “So this is kind of go-time now that we’re here.”
