LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Husker running back Emmett Johnson was named a semifinalist for a top collegiate player award, Nebraska Athletics announced Tuesday.

Johnson is one of 13 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, which is presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the collegiate player of the year.

If Johnson wins, he would become Nebraska’s second Maxwell Award recipient, joining Mike Rozier.

In addition to the semifinalist selection, Johnson was honored as the Maxwell Club National Player of the Week.

After Saturday’s win over UCLA, Johnson ranks second nationally in rushing yards with 1,131 and first in scrimmage yards with 1,431.

Johnson’s stellar performance against the Bruins — 232 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns — earned him the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor.

The winner of the Maxwell Award will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.  A date for that show has yet to be announced.
