LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – No charges will be filed against the driver involved in a fatal pedestrian crash in southeast Lincoln last week, police said Friday.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, was heading north on 84th Street when he hit 42-year-old Katherine Gogela, who was crossing the street on the MoPac Trail on Nov. 7, according to LPD.

Gogela was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.  Investigators noted there was no indication of impairment or excessive speed.

Gogela was a pediatrician at Lincoln Pediatric Group, according to the medical center’s Facebook page.

“She was a spectacular part of our group—a skilled, caring clinician, a loyal partner, a trusted friend, and a truly wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister,” the medical center wrote. “Her example of dedication and care set a high standard for us all and we miss her greatly.”
