LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Shari Veil — dean of the College of Mass Journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln — is stepping down.

In a letter sent to students on Monday, Veil said she would be stepping down on Dec. 23 to become provost at her alma mater, North Dakota State University.

Veil received her doctorate in communications from NDSU and became the dean at the CoJMC in 2020.

“This was not an easy decision, and it comes with deep appreciation of the remarkable community we have built together,” Veil said in the letter. “Serving as your dean has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I could not be more proud of the creativity, resilience and purpose you bring to this college every day.”

Veil reflected on her time at UNL, looking back on all the accomplishments.

“What we have accomplished together, from expanding experiential learning to strengthening our facilities, programs and partnerships, has been driven by your talent and determination to learn by doing.”

She expressed that the college is well-positioned for its next chapter, and she’s confident the students will continue to thrive under the leadership of faculty and staff.

Mark Burton — UNL’s Executive Vice Chancellor — wrote a letter to students, faculty and staff, saying he will share more information about an interim dean soon.
