‘It’s a great team’: Volleyball ticket prices soar as Huskers make title run
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Many Nebraska volleyball fans would consider Bruce Gottsleben a lucky man due to the decision he made ten years ago to become a season ticket holder.
He has been a season ticket holder ever since, and each year he is offered the chance to buy postseason tickets weeks early.
“We jumped right in. We got three tickets so that we had availability for our daughter to go with us, and we thought it was just great family fun, and the volleyball team at the time was doing very well,” said Gottsleben.
The Huskers just completed their first undefeated regular season since 2000, and they were selected as the No. 1 overall seed for the 2025 NCAA Division 1 Championship tournament.
“It’s a great team, and people love these gals. They’ve got personalities, and so much talent, and it’s fun in Nebraska to root for a winning team,” said Gottsleben.
He says he has tickets to all four upcoming Husker matches in Lincoln starting Friday, as well as to the final four in Kansas City.
Although he has his seats, Gottsleben says he’s no stranger to the struggle fans go through to snag them, saying many are waiting for his.
“There are a lot of home games for volleyball, so we can’t make all of them, and there’s a line of people who want to buy those tickets, so they are highly sought-after tickets.”
For those who don’t know a season ticket holder to purchase from, they may be paying a hefty price.
“People may have to pay premium prices, scalper prices, whatever. I think it’s a shame when people sell those tickets at a huge profit,” he said.
With Nebraska’s first two matches in Lincoln already sold out, the site prompts patrons to revisit their options on Dec. 3, when they can purchase tickets that have been returned.
Another option is to check a reseller website like SeatGeek, which lets you track the moment a ticket becomes available.
Gottsleben adds that reseller sites will include an upcharge, but sometimes that’s the price to pay to see the Huskers.
“So, if you find them at all, you may have to pay a price for them,” he said.
Gottsleben says he has seen the team reach many finals before and thinks they have been on a great path this year under the leadership of Coach Dani Busboon Kelly; he is hopeful this could be a winning year.
