City leaders release 2025 ‘Lincoln on the Move’ annual report
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln streets are getting a significant upgrade, and city leaders say the improvements go beyond just a smoother ride.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department released the 2025 Lincoln on the Move annual report on Wednesday, detailing completed projects and what’s ahead.
“The report demonstrates how the sales tax has delivered real, visible street improvements across all quadrants of Lincoln,” said Gaylor Baird.
This year alone, the city completed several significant projects, including improvements along Pine Lake Road, Normal Boulevard, Northwest 12th Street, and several other streets.
“It’s definitely been smoother since everything opened back up,” said Lincolnite Nicole Tooker.
For drivers, the difference is noticeable.
“Definitely that stretch they did between 56th and Van Dorn and Calvert, that has been such a nightmare for a long time,” Tooker said. “I’ve been saying this for many, many years, that street really needs to get fixed up. So the fact that they closed it and redid the whole thing is fabulous.”
The projects are funded by a quarter-cent sales tax approved by voters — a move city officials say helped close a long-standing funding gap for street maintenance.
“So, it does make me feel safer because I’m not worried about whether someone is going to be dodging a pothole,” Tooker said.
