Warmer, Still Breezy for Friday
Thursday’s strong winds set us up for a cold start to our Friday in southeast Nebraska. Temperatures as we head out the door will be in the teens under mostly clear skies. Winds for the morning commute remain light but will increase this afternoon.
One last look at some of the highest wind gusts we saw in eastern Nebraska yesterday. Plenty of wind gusts in the 60-mile per hour range, with the highest wind gust across the state reaching 83 miles per hour in northeast Hitchcock County.
Friday does pose an enhanced risk for fire weather across central and western Nebraska. A Red Flag Warning is in place for the panhandle and portions of central Nebraska until Friday evening. Strong winds and warm temperatures leading to lower relative humidity would allow wildfires to rapidly spread this afternoon.
Most of us should see some sunshine today after a cloudy Thursday, especially in eastern Nebraska. A few showers attempt to pop up along a passing front later this evening, but the latest runs of StormCast looks to keep most of us in southeast Nebraska dry.
High temperatures this afternoon will be well above average in southeast Nebraska with many of us in the 50s under sunny skies.
After starting out chilly, we should only need a lighter jacket in Lincoln by this afternoon.
Low temperatures tonight remain relatively warmer with many of us above freezing.
Increasing cloud cover tonight in the Capital City will try to hold onto our warmer afternoon temperatures. Winds shift to be out of the north-northwest with a weak cold front passing through, which should bring temperatures down to the middle 30s.
A breezy and mild weekend ahead with temperatures in the middle and upper 40s. We continue to warm up, back into the 50s as we head toward Christmas. Chances for a white Christmas are next to none, with forecast highs on Christmas day in the lower 60s.
