UNL’s new study shows trends in crop prices for 2026

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability conducted a study on the estimated cost of crop production for corn, soybeans, and wheat.
All crop costs are steadily increasing, but the largest jump is for irrigated soybeans, up nearly 10% in cost per bushel since the last report in 2024.
Seed, fertilizer, pesticides, machinery, and ownership costs are all estimated to reach their highest in the past five years.
But there’s a new tool to help maintain your budget, the agricultural budget calculator.
Its purpose is to enable farmers to create their own budgets and tailor their situation.
Glennis McClure, the head of the department, says some keys are to keep clarity on the cost of production, keep a handle on working capital, and to use decision-making support and resources
The tool is free to use.
