Free electronic recycling Monday and Tuesday

Old, broken or unused electronics often sit in our homes, untouched and taking up space.

Many times, it can cost money to recycle these items, such as VHS tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, computers, cell phones, cords, etc.

On Monday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 23, from 4-6 p.m., you can drop off any of these items at 19 & Y Streets to be recycled.

There is no charge to drop off most items. For televisions, $1 per inch of the screen’s diagonal width will be charged.

It’s an initiative put on by UNL’s Office of Sustainability to keep non-biodegradable items out of landfills.

“It’s just important that you don’t throw that [electronics] in the landfill, because you don’t want the batteries to degrade into the landfill and you want to get more use out of it than just one,” said Brittni McGuire, a sophomore in Sustain UNL, a sustainability club on campus.

This recycling also gets more than one use out of what is often times an expensive item.
