Student hit by car during demonstration outside Fremont High School

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A student was hit by a car during a demonstration outside Fremont High School on Thursday.
Around 2:30 p.m., officers with the Fremont Police Department were called to the high school, where a protest was going on at the time.
According to the police department, the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with an unknown injury.
In a press release, the high school stated that the demonstration was a non-school-sponsored, student-led event, with faculty and staff supervising.
“We value our relationship with our first responders and their help today,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Dahl said. “We will continue to work together to keep our students and community safe.”
Lawmakers across Nebraska also voiced their thoughts on the incident.
Gov. Jim Pillen said political violence is never okay.
“Here’s a fundamental truth we should all agree upon: Political violence — no matter what — is never okay. There is a lot about this particular situation we still need to lear, and we trust that local law enforcement will carry out a thorough and complete investigation. The freedom to peacefully assemble is a cornerstone of American government and must be protected. We will continue to monitor this situation and pray for the health of the girl who was hit.”
Rep. Mike Flood also spoke out.
“This is not what we do in Nebraska – this is not ok. The video of the girl being hit by a car at the school protest is disturbing. While initial reports say that the girl was alert and talking when she was taken away, we are praying for her and her well-being. The incident needs to be fully investigated by law enforcement. It is critical that our country preserve the ability of people to safely protest.”
I am praying for the high school student injured in this incident. We must all remember that we can disagree politically, and not resort to violence as a response.
I expect that all high school administrations will make sure all students have a safe and productive learning… https://t.co/37vMVItbNZ

We have the right to peaceful protest. The driver of this car should be held accountable for using their vehicle to assault a legal protestor. Let us be decent towards each other and respect differences of opinions. Decency, patience, kindness and empathy. https://t.co/ECK67raEGi
