Travel becoming dangerous in many parts of the state

Many parts of Nebraska are already experiencing snow and freezing rain creating dangerous travel conditions.
Most of Central Nebraska has snow covered or partially snow covered roads, as indicated by the pink and blue lines on the NE 511 map.
Near North Platte travel conditions are so poor an accident has westbound I-80 closed between exit 199 and 179. The roads there are completely snow covered, as indicated by the pink lines.
In Omaha the rain has transitioned the freezing rain creating slick conditions on the interstate and highways.
The Nebraska State Patrol has tweeted several images of accidents on I-80 near Papillion of cars sliding off the road. No injuries have been reported in any of the accidents.
If you plan on traveling from Lincoln to Omaha roads are just wet from the rain until you reach the Gretna area where it’s transitioned to freezing rain.
NE 511 shows most of Southeastern Nebraska unaffected by the weather. The green lines on the map indicate wet pavement.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout Southeastern Nebraska as rain transitions to snow in the coming hours.
Officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads unless it’s absolutely necessary and if you’re out driving take it slow.
