Athlete of the week: Colin Farr

Colin Faarr Lincoln High

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Lincoln High Junior Colin Farr repeated as the Class A State Boys Diving champ on Thursday.

He also broke a school record along the way. Farr scored a 505, surpassing Mark Stiner’s record of 475.

“It was a 50 year old record by Mark Stiner in 1972. The record was 475, this year I scored 505,” said Farr. “I’m happy that’s going to get put up there.”

Farr has been competing since he was 8 years old and last year became the first ever state champion at Lincoln high in a long time, something he said, was a long time coming.

But, this year’s championship was a bit more special to him.

He got a chance to share the stage with his younger brother Owen, who placed second in the competition.

“Just having a brother pushing you, and someone always cheering you on….I’m incredibly thankful that someone’s so supportive of me, I was able to share the stage with and share that moment with,” Farr said.

The junior credits his success to his support group, but also his head coach Reynaldo Castro.

“It’s a long time coming for my coach, he’s been doing really great things with a lot of different kids,” said Farr. “He’s especially been doing a lot of great things with me.”

But now, Farr’s name will soon be engraved in Lincoln High history, and he’s excited for it.

“When they update that record board I’m very excited to be able to see my name up there. It’s going to be a great feeling practicing here and seeing that up there.”
