Service dog training organization moves into their first building in Northwest Lincoln

It’s been a doggone good day for one Lincoln non-profit.

Uplifting Paws, an organization that trains service animals, moved into their first building near North 56th and Cornhusker Highway.

The group specialty trains each dog for several years to meet the needs of its future owners.

If a person needs a mobility dog, the pup will be trained to help their owner off the ground if they fall, brace them to make a fall gentler, unzip zippers, and a variety of other tasks.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing that we’ve started from a baby, from an 8 week old puppy and been able to work with it for two years to give it to that person that’s going to be able to make them live their lives much more independently,” said Uplifting Paws Executive Director Elizabeth Higley.

The puppies currently enrolled will not be placed with someone until 2020.

Uplifting Paws operates entirely on donations and is volunteer run.

If you would like to learn more about the organization they are hosting an open house on Sunday, November 11 from 2-6 p.m at their location at 5800 Cornhusker Highway Suite 3.
