Woman hit by trailer on Interstate 80 near Waverly dies, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The woman who was seriously injured after getting hit by a trailer near Waverly on April 14 has died.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the woman — 62-year-old Charlene Lautenschlager of Palmer — died in the hospital on Thursday after suffering multiple fractures to her lower body.
On April 14, deputies were sent to Interstate 80 near the Waverly exit on a report that a truck and trailer had run over an individual.
Investigators said the trailer, which was carrying multiple wood pallets, lost part of its load onto the road.
The 64-year-old male driver and Lautenschlager stopped to pick up the pallets from the interstate.
While Lautenschlager was picking up some of the pallets, she was run over by the trailer, according to the sheriff’s office.
She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where she later died.
The investigation remains ongoing.
