Nebraska sports commentator talks Husker softball strategy ahead of WCWS

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska softball team has just three games to win so they can make it to the Women’s College World Series finals.

Sports Commentator and Beatrice Native, Nate Rohr, says they should keep their strategy simple and work with what has already gotten them this far.

Such as having shortstop Ava Kuszak, bringing back much of last year’s lineup, and having pitcher and Nebraska native Jordy Frahm lead.

“They’ve really built a great team around Jordy Frahm, and that’s vaulted Nebraska into a chance to compete for the national championship,” said Rohr. “Just let her pitch her game, be the elite pitcher on the stage that she has been so often in her career, and then, of course, bringing in Alexis Jensen.”

He says the mentee-mentor relationship between Frahm and freshman Jensen has strengthened their endgame, but each pitcher brings their own strengths to the field.

As for what needs to happen at their Thursday night game in Oklahoma City, he had this to say.

“I think it’s important for Nebraska to start strong early, get an early lead, have the ball in Jordy Frahm’s hands,” said Rohr. “And then offensively, just take advantage of the opportunities that you get.”

When asked about Coach Rhonda Revell’s influence, he said it’s all about what she’s allowed the girls to do.

“I think in the past six to seven years, Rhonda’s really made it a priority to have the players lead the team. So, that keeps her leadership approach a little more fresh,” said Rohr.

First pitch for Thursday’s game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

If Nebraska beats Arkansas, then they will play again on Saturday. If they lose, they will play their second game on Friday.
