Lincoln man arrested after child hospitalized in critical condition, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was arrested on Friday following an ongoing child abuse and assault investigation.
Devon Rejda, 30, was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and first-degree assault.
The Lincoln Police Department said the investigation started on May 1, when the Bryan West ER contacted LPD regarding a 23-month-old child in critical condition with injuries to his body, including bruising and a brain bleed.
The child was taken to Children’s Hospital in Omaha for further care, where doctors said the injuries were consistent with abusive trauma.
According to LPD, the investigation determined Rejda, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, was responsible for the injuries.
LPD said the child remains in the hospital.
