Authorities seize more than 30 pounds of cocaine in traffic stop near Waverly

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A California man was arrested in Lancaster County on Friday after authorities say he was caught with more than 30 pounds of cocaine.
Just before 12:30 p.m., a deputy with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a black Nissan headed west on Interstate 80 for following too close to another vehicle.
During the traffic stop, which was just outside Waverly, a K9 with the Nebraska State Patrol conducted a sniff of the vehicle, which alerted to drugs.
A probable cause search revealed just over 33 pounds of cocaine in the trunk, which was stored in two suitcases.
Kanwal Preet Singh, 19, of Fresno, California, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
According to Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, as packaged, the cocaine was worth around $500,000. But on the street, that much cocaine is worth about $2 million.
“What’s really weird about this one is, usually the drugs go east, and the money comes west,” Houchin said in a news conference. “Well, this time, the drugs were coming west from New York to California, which we do not see very often.”
According to Houchin, the driver told deputies he didn’t know what was in the suitcase.
