South Fork Fire closes Highway 20 in western Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A fast-moving wildfire has forced a portion of Highway 20 to close in western Nebraska.
The Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands said the South Fork Fire has closed the stretch between the towns of Harrison and Crawford.
According to Watch Duty, the wildfire has burned 8,000 acres so far and is 0 percent contained.
Gov. Jim Pillen said he has been briefed on the fire and is providing resources to local first responders, including the Nebraska National Guard.
“The terrain in that area is extremely rugged and windy conditions are compounding the challenge,” Gov. Pillen said in a post on social media late Tuesday night. “Please keep our firefighters and responders in your prayers as they continue a tough and dangerous fight through the night, and if you are in the affected area follow all orders from local authorities.”
Officials are monitoring the situation. No word yet on what caused the wildfire to break out.
