Scattered Morning Showers, Mostly Sunny Thursday Afternoon

After a few morning showers, we are looking at a quiet rest of your Thursday with highs reaching the lower 80s. Winds will be noticeably lighter than yesterday, and combined with low humidity, will make for a pleasant afternoon ahead.

The latest run of StormCast shows light showers moving out of southeast Nebraska before lunch with mostly sunny skies to follow. Another chance of scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm arrives on Friday.

Highs across the state will range from the upper 70s to the mid-80s with decreasing cloud cover throughout the afternoon.

It should be a great afternoon to enjoy some time outside in Lincoln. Highs will reach the lower 80s, but with a UV index of eight this afternoon, we cannot forget the sunscreen.

Lows heading into Friday morning will drop to the 50s under mostly clear skies and light winds.

We should be clear for any evening plans in Lincoln with mostly clear skies for the majority of the overnight. Expect a few more clouds as we head toward sunrise.

We are continuing to monitor the potential for scattered severe storms through Father’s Day Weekend. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for southwest Nebraska for late Saturday afternoon and into the overnight hours. An isolated severe storm or two may make it to southeast Nebraska late Saturday and into early Sunday morning. All severe weather hazards are possible in the strongest storms.

Mid-to-long-range models are hinting at storm chances for southeast Nebraska very late Saturday into early Sunday morning.

Flash flooding will also be a concern this weekend, with forecasts calling for a couple of corridors of higher rainfall across the state. Several inches of rain over a short period of time remain possible with this storm system.

We will add a few degrees to our high temperatures heading into the weekend with a more active weather pattern moving into the region. Storm chances pick up this weekend, with more potential for showers and storms looming in the extended forecast. Temperatures will fluctuate from the mid-70s to the mid-80s for the week ahead.
