Gov. Pillen announces financial assistance for farmers and producers after wildfires

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Gov. Pillen has announced financial help to people who have been impacted by major wildfires in March and April. Pillen requested the assistance for Nebraska farmers and producers last month.

The Secretarial Disaster Declaration was approved by the USDA.

“We appreciate the swift response by Secretary Brooke Rollins and the USDA to this request. This provides an avenue for producers and farmers to receive much needed financial support as they continue to deal with the aftermath of the Morrill, Cottonwood, Ashby and Minor fires,” said Pillen.

Grant, Garden, Lincoln and Morrill are the primary counties that will be eligible. In addition, the declaration covers 17 other counties where farmers and producers can receive federal aid if they qualify.

The declaration allows people in the qualifying areas to be considered for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loan assistance.

Applications for assistance must be submitted within the next eight months.
