UNMC study explores challenges families with special needs children face

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) did a study on challenges that Nebraska families with special needs children are facing.

According to the UNMC study, almost half of parents (45%) with a child with special needs are worried about their family not having enough food. Along with that, 28% say their family ran out of food within the last year.

18% of these parents have had three or more childcare changes in 12 months while 5% of parents without special needs children have had three or more changes.

One of the biggest challenges found in this UNMC study is that one-third of parents with special needs children have had to quit their job because of the necessity of care for their child.
