Former Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo, arrested for OWI in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (KLKN) — Tony Romo, a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, was arrested last night on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

Romo was taken into custody and then released.

In the state of Wisconsin, the terms ‘operating while intoxicated (OWI)’ and ‘driving while under the influence (DUI)’ are interchangeable. An OWI can refer to a person driving or simply sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. A DUI is used specifically for driving under the influence.

If an OWI or DUI charge is a first offense, in Wisconsin it is generally cited as a civil traffic violation rather than a criminal offense. Penalties do not include jail time unless aggravating factors are present.
