Gov. Jim Pillen signed proclamation for back to school month, emphasizing safe classrooms

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Today, Gov. Jim Pillen signed a proclamation to mark the start of the school year.

Pillen emphasized the need for safe, supportive classrooms.

“I think it’s important that we first recognize the teachers of our state and the critical role they play for our young people. They spend hours dedicating their time to each and every student, and they don’t get enough recognition,” said Pillen. “So, thank you to all of you for everything you do in investing in the next generation. I wish our students, teachers, and parents a great school year, and I hope every student has the opportunity to be inspired, challenged, and empowered.”

Pillen also highlighted the legislation he has advocated for over the last two years, specifically LB 140. LB 140 requires schools to have policies related to electronic devices used by students.

“As a new school year begins, we celebrate the excitement of fresh starts, new opportunities, and the promise that comes with learning,” said Nebraska Commissioner of Education Brian Maher. “Nebraska’s students and educators are at the heart of our future, and we are grateful for their dedication and enthusiasm. We encourage every student to attend school every day, as consistent attendance helps students stay engaged, connected, and on track for success. I wish all Nebraska schools a wonderful year filled with curiosity, achievement, and joy.”
