NFIB index shows small business optimism has risen

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Optimism Index rose 2.4 points in July to 99.8. This is above the 52-year average of 98.

The NFIB Small Business Employment Index also rose after four consecutive months of decline.

“The latest Small Business Optimism Index reflects growing confidence among Nebraska’s small business owners,” said NFIB Nebraska State Director Ryan McIntosh. “More employers are making plans to hire and invest, which is a strong signal about the direction of the economy. However, workforce availability continues to limit growth for many businesses. Lawmakers must remain focused on creating an environment where small businesses can succeed.”

The top reported issue in July was labor quality or availability. Reports of inflation as the single most important problem lowered with new reports of the labor quality.
