Friday Forecast:

Warm and a touch breezy to end the work week in southeast Nebraska, though mostly sunny skies will persist through most of the afternoon. We should have great weather for high school football kicking into gear this evening.

Our Game of the Week features the Lincoln Christian Crusaders taking on the Lincoln Lutheran Warriors. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Aldrich Field (Lincoln Pius X) with temperatures in the middle 80s.

The latest run of StormCast shows periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms Friday evening out west, with a small chance in eastern Nebraska early Saturday.

Highs across the state today will range from the middle 80s to the lower triple digits, with a southerly wind picking up this afternoon. Mostly sunny skies are expected for most of the day, with a small chance of showers overnight.

Highs top out in the upper 80s for Lincoln this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Winds could gust up to 25 miles per hour throughout the afternoon and evening.

Isolated strong to severe storms are possible on Friday evening for western Nebraska and into the Panhandle. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place with quarter-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour possible in the strongest storms.

A relatively warm start to the day on Saturday is in the forecast after a few cooler mornings earlier this week.

Partly cloudy skies for Friday evening into early Saturday in the Capital City. Overnight lows fall to the lower 70s before a hot and humid weekend ahead.

This Weekend:

This weekend will remind us that summer is not quite over in southeast Nebraska. Temperatures are forecast in the middle-to-upper 90s, with small chances for showers and storms each evening. Strong winds out of the south will help usher in the heat and humidity.

Feels-like temperatures will range from the upper 90s to the lower triple digits for Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Be prepared for the heat if your outdoor plans take you outside this weekend.

An isolated storm chance is in the forecast for the Panhandle on Saturday, with a Marginal Risk of severe weather in place. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns.

Above-average temperatures will stick around through the end of the month into the first week of September. The first of the month also marks the start of meteorological fall, though the forecast will look far from it. Periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast through the first half of next week.
