Rockford Lake under health alert for harmful algae

GAGE COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) — A health alert has been issued for Rockford Lake by Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
The health alert was issued for Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), also known as toxic blue-green algae.
Samples taken earlier this week tested above the threshold, which is eight parts per billion (ppb) of total microcystin, which is a toxin released by HABs.
People are unable to swim while a health alert is issued. The public is cautioned to avoid any contact with the water in the lake.
