Short Term Forecast:

Another chance for showers and a few rumbles of thunder arrives early on Sunday morning. Afternoon temperatures will depend on how long morning cloud cover lingers in the area. Feels-like temperatures will have a chance to crack the 100-degree mark.

The latest run of StormCast shows a complex of showers and thunderstorms tracking east across the state through the overnight hours. Spot showers are possible for Sunday morning, and one or two hanging on into the afternoon cannot be ruled out.

Cloud cover overnight will help us hold onto the heat in eastern Nebraska. Overnight lows will sneak just below 80 degrees in eastern Nebraska, with cooler weather to the west.

Cloud cover will build through the overnight hours for Lincoln. Temperatures could linger in the 80s past midnight, with little relief from the heat to start the day on Sunday.

Another hot late-summer day for most of the state to round out the weekend. High temperatures are forecast in the 90s statewide, though any lingering cloud cover could knock those down by a few degrees.

Temperatures are expected to return to the 90s in the Capital City around lunchtime on Sunday. Assuming morning cloud cover does not play spoiler, highs are forecast in the middle 90s with a strong afternoon breeze.

Storm chances cannot be ruled out for western Nebraska on Sunday evening. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place where isolated severe storms will be possible. Damaging winds would be the main concern in the strongest storms on Sunday.

Next Week:

Temperatures will take a step back for the work week, though not by much in southeast Nebraska. Highs will range from the middle 80s to middle 90s across the state.

An isolated storm remains in the forecast on Monday evening as well. A Marginal Risk will be in place from southwestern to eastern Nebraska.

High temperatures have no plans on cooling down before the start of September. We remain above average through the first several days of the month, with highs in the 90s. Periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms stick around, though they will be determined by smaller-scale forces. We will likely see more finite details on our storm chances as each day gets closer.
