Ranchers First Initiative revealed with the goal to address rising beef prices
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced today the Ranchers First Initiative.
The actions are meant to help make beef more affordable for Americans. The actions include helping producers keep heifer longer for breeding, offering support for wildfires and disaster recovery, increasing support for new ranchers for 10 years and encouraging the purchase of American beef.
“Until President Trump took office, America’s ranchers were treated as a problem with policy geared toward their eventual extinction. The consequences were devastating: a war on beef, a cattle herd at a 75-year low, and the loss of tens of thousands of family operations,” Rollins said.
Today, Gov. Jim Pillen and Rollins are meeting with cattle producers at a roundtable to address the new actions aimed at addressing beef prices and supporting American producers.
