Weather Headlines:

The heat and humidity remain pesky as we wrap up the work week, with impacts possible to outdoor events on Friday and Saturday. It will be hot and humid for our high school football Game of the Week featuring the Lincoln Northwest Falcons and the Lincoln North Star Navigators.

Heat alerts remain in place for south-central and southeastern Nebraska heading into the holiday weekend. A Heat Advisory is in place through Saturday evening, September 5, with feels-like temperatures up to 105 degrees possible.

Stormcast stays on the quiet side for Friday, with a few chances of isolated showers and thunderstorms across the state on Saturday.

One to two storms on Saturday may be severe throughout the day. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place along the northern half of the state, with large hail and damaging winds the main concerns.

While we are several days into September, highs on Friday look like they belong in late July. Expect afternoon temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s for most of the state.

Certainly a hot one ahead for the Lincoln area to close out the work week. Air temperatures will be at least 10 degrees above average, and once we factor in the humidity, that could push the feels-like temperature above 100 degrees.

Very little relief from the heat continues through the overnight hours, especially in southeast Nebraska. Temperatures on Saturday morning will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s statewide.

Expect a few passing clouds for the Capital City on Friday evening, which may help us hang onto a little daytime heat. Lows will be close to 10 degrees above normal for early September.

We could see partly cloudy skies to start the day before mostly sunny skies, along with plenty of heat and humidity, arrive for the afternoon. Temperatures at kickoff between the Bobcats and Cornhuskers will be in the mid-80s, though it will feel like the mid-90s.

Feels-like temperatures look to stay above 100 degrees through the holiday weekend. Prepare accordingly by drinking plenty of water, taking breaks from extended time outdoors and dressing accordingly.

High temperatures continue to be well above average through the start of September. A few chances for spot showers and storms remain in the forecast through the start of next week. By the middle of September, we could still be looking for that first taste of fall.
