Heat Continues, Scattered Storm Chances for the Week Ahead

Temperatures will remain far above average through Labor Day, with highs in the middle and upper 90s. Isolated storm chances remain in the forecast, reaching their peak with a passing cold front by the middle of the work week.

Most of the storm chances we see in the coming days will be sub-severe. That said, isolated severe storms remain possible with a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for at least some portion of the state through the next couple of days. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns in the strongest storms.

Here is what the radar could look like going through the rest of the weekend, according to the latest run of StormCast.

Heat and humidity will continue to be an inconvenience for the rest of Saturday evening. A Heat Advisory remains in place for southeast Nebraska until 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. for south-central Nebraska.

We remain above-average through the overnight hours in the eastern half of the state. Temperatures will remain in the 70s, when we typically see the upper 50s.

Cloud cover will increase through the overnight in Lincoln as storms advance from the west. That cloud cover could help trap in any daytime heating, leaving us with a warm start to the day on Sunday.

Scattered storm chances will attempt to curb temperatures, though we will remain well above average for early September.

Our best chance of seeing storms will be during the late afternoon through the dinner hour in the Capital City. Highs will try for the middle 90s and temperatures could jump quickly for those who can see a little sun.

Temperatures surge through the holiday before a long-awaited cold front looks to move through by midweek. Scattered storm chances will follow each day, with slightly cooler, though still above-average temperatures through mid-September.
