LPS Board of Education plans to discuss increase in budget and potential decrease in tax levy

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Public Board of Education is planning to discuss the budget in property tax increase tonight.

Nothing will be approved unless the board takes special action.

Lincoln Public Schools is looking at a 4% total increase to the overall budget. But the district is proposing a tax levy decrease. If approved, the levy would be $1.01 per $100 in property valuation.

However, since property values rose more than 5% in Lancaster County, there is a possible increase of 4.2% to property taxes.

There will be a joint public hearing on Sept. 17 after the discussion tonight.
