Scammer tries to put victim under false gag order, trying to claim $9,000 for fake warrant

BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — Gage County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) received a report of a scammer who was posing as law enforcement.

The scammer contacted a resident of Beatrice and claimed the victim had a warrant for missing jury duty. According to GCSO, the suspect had personal information on the victim such as their social security number, vehicle information and more.

The victim was then instructed by the scammer to either turn themselves in or go to CVS Pharmacy in Lincoln and transfer $9,000 in bond money to him.

The suspect also told the victim that he was under a “gag order” which meant the victim was not allowed to tell anyone about the situation.

The victim drove to the sheriff’s office to confirm if he had a warrant out for his arrest. Staff instead confirmed it was a scam, saving the victim from losing any money.
