Athlete of the Week: Northeast’s Zayne Scully
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Northeast (8-1) and Lincoln Northwest (3-6) clashed in the final game of the 2026 regular season in Channel 8’s Game of the Week on Friday night at Union Bank Stadium.
After the Falcons’ Cooper Floyd found paydirt to open the game’s scoring, the Rockets scored 70-straight points in the team’s resounding win. The eighth win of the regular season marked Lincoln Northwest’s most victories in a single season in over two decades, and, in Week 8, clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2020.
At the helm of the Rockets’ offense stood Zayne Scully, who broke the school’s all-time passing touchdown record with 25. On Friday night, Scully found the endzone twice.
“It means everything,” Scully said. “When we were freshman, our first ever game was here against Northwest. So, it’s nice just ending where we started.”
Scully finished the regular season logging 2,039 total yards, 658 rushing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and 11 rushing scores.
Scully will lead the Rockets into the opening round of playoffs this week, as Lincoln Northeast hits the road to face Papillion-LaVista South in a win or go home match.
