Officers found his car in Butler County, but not him. As the sheriff approached and searched the area, he heard gunshots from an unknown direction.
The sheriff retreated to a safe position and Dohmen entered the vehicle and drove away.
The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) joined the pursuit, following Dohmen until he pulled into a residence. Dohmen exited the vehicle and began shooting at troopers. Two troopers returned fire.
One shot struck Dohmen, resulting in his death.
Community members said these situations rarely happen.
