New family medicine residency training program coming to Crete
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Medical Education Partnership (LMEP) and Bryan Medical Center are developing a rural family medicine residency training site at the Crete Area Medical Center.
The funding comes from a federal grant aimed at creating more rural training opportunities.
The three-year $750,000 grant will fund the planning and development of the program.
“Rural communities need access to skilled, compassionate family medicine physicians who understand the unique needs of the people they serve,” Sabrina Cerny, the program director of Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program, said. “This new training site in Crete will be a welcome addition to our Lincoln site–Lincoln Family Medicine Center—and will allow us to continue building on what we currently offer through our curriculum while encouraging more physicians to choose rural practice. Many of our graduates are already making a difference in communities across Nebraska, and we look forward to building on that legacy.”
The program will produce six residents by 2031.
