Lincoln leaders outline next steps for city ballot initiatives

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln had six local ballot initiatives for the 2026 General Election. Today, Lincoln leaders are answering common questions as ballots continue to be counted.

The six initiatives are as follows:

  1. Building a new volleyball facility.
  2. Moving city elections to statewide election years.
  3. Changing mayoral term limits.
  4. Limiting City council members to two four-year terms.
  5. Limiting City council members to three four-year terms.
  6. Allows certain residents outside of city limits to vote in city elections.

Around 9,000 ballots are still uncounted in Lancaster County. With that, Lincoln’s city ballot initiative results are not yet official.

“I think it’s critical that in every election every single vote is counted and then once the election is certified, the City of Lincoln looks forward to doing our part in making sure that laws are enacted accordingly as the voters wish,” Brodey Weber, Lincoln City Council member, said.

Unofficial results show voters favor four of the initiatives, not the other two.

“Our office will do the technical updating but the language that the voters passed on will be put into charter,” Yohance Christie, Lincoln City Attorney, said.
