Breaking News: The Humane Society in Lincoln takes in 84 cats rescued from single home

Capital Humane Society said they suddenly took in a huge influx of cats Saturday.

Eighty-four of them were rescued from a single home.

“My understanding is it started simply with two cats and multiplied over a few years into 84 cats,” President and CEO Bob Downey said.

He said despite them being crammed into one home, none of them were in bad condition.

“There wasn’t a lot of disease or anything like that,” Downey said.  “And we’re glad about that because we can move them to adoption.”

Downey said every single one of the cats will be a candidate for adoption.  But first, they need to spay and neuter them.

He said they’ve already been examined, got vaccines and micro–chips and some of them will be available for adoption starting Wednesday.

But aside from homes, these little guys also need supplies for care.

“Empty shoe boxes, we use those for beds for cats at both facilities,” Downey said.  “Simple things like wash clothes, hand towels, bath towels can all be used.”

And of course, money helps too.
