UNL Police issue alert after reported sex assault in dorm

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police posted an online bulletin Tuesday alerting the campus to be aware after a reported sex assault at a campus residence hall.
The bulletin, posted on the UNL Police website says “circumstances exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University campus community.”
“It really hit close to home to see that somewhere where I use to live and consider my friends house can have an incident such as this happen,” said UNL student, Krishti Sabloak.
An incident summary report says two males, a female student and a friend went to the female student’s residence hall after meeting off campus Saturday night.
The student reported being forcibly sexually assaulted in her room by the two men, who then left the residence hall.
UNL Police say the situation remains under investigation. This has some students being extra careful.
“It felt really scary considering I just turned 21 so it’s been more of me going downtown with my friends and stuff so it’s definitely made me be potentially more precautious,” said UNL student, Mahati Gollapudi.
Another student said she was surprised by the alert.
“I feel like sexual assault on college campuses is a fairly common occurrence, as sad as that is, so I was shocked that it was out there but it was nice to know,” said UNL student, Emma Ourada.
The bulletin also says that students and guests should take any necessary precautions to avoid being a potential victim.
“We have to be cautious of each other too and when you see something happening to other people, just step up and intervene, if you ever see it happening,” said Sabloak and Gollapudi.
The bulletin is based on the current information available to UNLPD, and may change as the investigation continues.
The incident summary describes the first suspect as a 5’8″-5’11” black male with short hair and wearing white pants, a white jacket, black shoes and a black stocking hat.
The second suspect is described as a 6’0″-6’3″ black male with short hair and wearing a black Northface jacket, white Adidas t-shirt with “Omaha Basketball,” Adidas red pants, white shoes, a black t-shirt, and black stocking hat that says “Fancy” on the front.
UNLPD Chief Owen Yardley reminded students to only allowed trusted individuals into residence halls.
Suspicious behavior and any tips related to the case should be reported to the University Police Department.
