Man in custody after standoff with police in northwest Lincoln

An hours-long standoff that started Wednesday night in northwest Lincoln has ended with one man in custody.

Lincoln Police say officers responded to a domestic disturbance near NW 50th and Superior Street around 6:30 p.m.

A 29-year-old woman reported she had broken up with her boyfriend and wanted to get her belongings from their shared home.

The woman told police she was afraid because her boyfriend had been drinking and was refusing to let her inside.

Officers spoke to the man and he agreed to let the woman get her stuff and she left.

Hours later, police received multiple calls of gunshots coming from the same home.

LPD says shell casings were found nearby, and witnesses said the man was threatening to harm himself and possibly his ex-girlfriend.

Police spoke with the man for more than hours trying to convince him to come out of his home, but the man threatened to shoot officers in order to “protect his property.”

The man was shot with a bean bag and taken into custody.

He was transported to the hospital and then given a mental health evaluation.

Once cleared, LPD says the man will be arrested and taken to jail.
