Kearney boy scores big with backyard Nebraska football field

KEARNEY, Neb. —
One local boy asked for a football birthday party, but his parents decided to give him a little more.
Hudson Fryda’s parents scored big this year, bringing Memorial Stadium to their backyard.
Growing up in Nebraska, Hudson always watched the Huskers.
“When you’re from Nebraska, you’re going to be a fan. We took him to his first football game this year, and ever since he’s been talking about the Huskers and really getting into it,” said Hudson’s father Nic Fryda.
Hudson said he couldn’t pinpoint exactly when they became his team.
“Uh, probably when I’ve just grown up, probably,” said Hudson.
Ever since the game, Hudson’s father said he’s been really into the sport, throwing the football around in his spare time.
“I just mowed him a football field one day and that was it. After I got it done, he asked if I could mow an ‘N’ in there so that’s where the ‘N’ came from. Then we got into painting it and everything so we made a football field,” said Nic.
The field was a big win for his party, complete with a concession stand and a referee.
“I wanted it for my birthday party so my friends and all of them could play on my football field too. We played football and then when the parents came, we played flag tag,” said Hudson.
Hudson even took tips from his favorite Husker player. “Probably Adrian,” he said.
Between scoring touchdowns in his backyard and playing flag football for a junior league, when it comes to getting on the field, he’s already narrowed it down to two possible positions.
“Receiver or running back,” Hudson said.
“It all stemmed from that game we went to when we played Purdue. He’s been wanting to be a Husker football player now, and he asked questions about it, and so yeah, he’s really thinking it about it right now,” said Nic.
“Sometimes, I even intercepted it and I like just playing on my football field a lot of times. I just really like it,” said Hudson.
As for Hudson’s 8th birthday, Nic and Megan aren’t sure if they’ll be able to top this year’s gift, but they say they’ll sure try.
