UPDATE: Culler Middle School student victim of a hit and run, police searching for driver

UPDATE:
Eleven–year–old Canaan Beason said he was hit by a turning vehicle Thursday morning.
Police said it happened around 7:30 a.m. near 54th and Vine streets, while Canaan was walking to Culler Middle School.
He said the driver looked at him and then drove away.
“I was like ‘why would you hit someone — or even an animal — and just drive away?'” Canaan said. “I understand you’re scared, but I would still get out to help them or something.’ And I’m just really mad that he would drive off like that.”
He said he suffered scrapes on his face and wrist. He said he told school staff about it when he got there.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said his mother, Danielle. “I was completely in shock, I just immediately started crying.”
She said Canaan had brain surgery last year and can’t take blows to the head.
“My biggest concern is that somebody wouldn’t have enough compassion to stop — and especially a child is laying in the street — and just to drive away,” Danielle said.
She said doctors looked at Canaan and said he doesn’t need x rays.
LPD is looking for an orange and black car, possibly a sports sedan.
If you have any information on this, they encourage you to call crime stoppers at (402) 475-3600, or the non–emergency line at (402) 411-6000.
