Campus Life celebrates 50 years with sculpture reveal

Serving hands is the new art project in Lincoln.
Dozens of people gathered in front of the Pinnacle Bank Arena to see the sculpture unveiled.
“Serving hand is perfect for what they do for kids,” said Nicki Nix.
This public art project begins with the celebration of campus life which has been impacting teens in and around Lincoln through campus, retreats, clubs and mentoring for 50 years.
“50 years of helping young kids develop leadership qualities, 50 years of helping everybody in the community learn what it means to be a giving and contributing figure in our community,” said Mayor Chris Beutler.
Those in attendance were able to write the name of someone in the community they would like to honor onto the sculpture.
The unveiling marks the beginning of the sponsorship phase of the project which will run through January of 2019.
The goal is to have 50 sculptures by area businesses, organizations and philanthropists.
“It’ll be a fun way to celebrate 50 years and it’s neat to see how the community is already behind the project,” said Matt Schulte, Executive Director of Campus Life.
There were over 100 artists who submitted a design. 82 designs were chosen.
One of the artists said she was thrilled to be there, not only because two of hers were selected but she was close ties to the organization.
“It changed my son’s life, he’s now 32 and he was involved in Campus Life since he was 11 and so we are one of the supporters for this organization,” said Nix.
Serving hands was chosen because Campus Life sees this as a celebration of all who serve, not just what they do for Lincoln’s teens.
