Chick-Fil-A holds fundraiser for Lincoln boy fighting cancer

Twelve–year–old Christian Waite is like other kids his age.

He enjoys playing sports.

“I play baseball for the Lincoln Regulators,” Christian said.  “And I play basketball for Lincoln East Supreme and I play wing guard.”

But he’s also a fighter.  Right now, he’s in the biggest fight of his young life: against Stage 4 angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

His parents said he was diagnosed with it in July and have since been taking him to chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

They said Christian’s been handling it like a champ.

“He’s been very resilient,” said his mother, Ann.  “Anything that has come up that has been a challenge, he’s just sort of faced it head on.  So ‘hey, we got to get through this.  What do I need to do get to the next step?'”

To help out, Chick–Fil–A held a benefit Tuesday evening.  Fifty percent of their sales went to Christian and his family.

“It’s just kind of our simple way to try to bring some hope and optimism in a situation to show that we care and to make a difference,” said owner and operator Charlie Colón.

Customers filled their store, helping out by simply enjoying the food.

That’s not lost on Christian and his family.

“It makes me feel overjoyed and thankful for everybody who’s here to support me and help with this and show that they care,” Christian said.

Chick–Fil–A said they raised a total of $3,700 from the event.

For anyone who couldn’t make it, there’s  another fundraiser for Christian at Cappy’s Bar Friday evening.
