KEARNEY, Neb. — Teams in Kearney got together for the fifth year in a row to help raise awareness for suicide and prevention.

The Central Nebraska Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors, or LOSS, hosted their annual volleyball scramble at the Big Apple Fun Center on Saturday.

"It’s really more of a fellowship type of atmosphere to get people together to connect and understand that we are all in the same place," said Renae Zimmer, co-founder of the LOSS team. "Some of us are here playing for a loved one that has passed away or died by suicide. We are kind of here to lift each other up and support each other in a fun, athletic format."

One of the co-founders said the event has doubled since it’s start, with over 125 attendees this year and 13 teams.

"This tournament has actually doubled in size," Zimmer said. We would probably be bigger every year if we had another court. We are thrilled with the numbers. We were hoping for 10 teams and we have 12 or actually 13 teams all involved. We are ecstatic about the numbers this year and the support. We just hope to keep it growing and get that message out there every year."
