Lincoln Police are releasing new details about a home invasion in northwest Lincoln that left 36 year old Jessica Brandon dead.
Neighbors are now trying to understand what happened.
"I came out the door this morning to see all the police cars but I slept through everything," said neighbor Brad Memming.
Memming and his family have lived in the area of 19th & Fairfield for almost 40 years, and says the neighborhood is relatively safe.
But now, it makes him uneasy knowing what happened just down the block from his home.
"It’s disturbing, and it doesn’t make you feel good for the most part," he said.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Lincoln Police responded to a call of shots fired at 3:45 a.m., and a female victim with a gun shot wound.
That woman was 36 year old Jessica Brandon of Lincoln.
"When we got there, her family was attempting to revive her until relieved by a Lincoln Police Officer who began CPR," said Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister in a media briefing Tuesday.
Brandon was rushed to Bryan West Hospital, where she died at 4:58 a.m., just an hour after police received the call.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help her family in the midst of this tragedy. You can find the link here.
"The members of the Lincoln Police Department extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased," said Chief Bliemeister.
There were two other adults and four children in the home when the shooting happened, but none of them sustained injuries.
Lincoln Police will maintain a presence in the neighborhood into the week to continue to investigate.
They say there’s no threat to the immediate area, but the suspects who killed Jessica Brandon are still at large.
Chief Bliemeister says LPD does not have any suspect information at this time, and are asking for the public’s help in putting together the pieces.
Anyone with information on the homicide should contact the Lincoln Police Department at (402) 441–6000, or CrimeStoppers at (402) 475–3600.
