UNL was bustling with activity as the last round of students moved in to their new homes for the 2018–19 school year. Carts were overflowing as students try to pack as much as they can into their rooms.

Starting college is an exciting time and an opportunity to start fresh, so what are the newest Cornhuskers looking forward to?

"Probably just to walk around downtown. Just to enjoy everything about college, just enjoy the adventure," said Taylor Richters, an incoming freshman from Utica.

Others are interested in who they will cross paths with.

"Definitely meeting new people, a new group of friends. Definitely excited for that," said Nate McQueen, an incoming freshman from Omaha.

It’s exciting for parents too, but seeing their children leave home and start a new chapter in their lives is bittersweet, especially if it’s their first.

"You have good and bad feelings about that. She needs to spread her wings and grow up but also we’re going to miss her. We’re going to miss her a lot," said Roger Richters, Taylor’s father.

Even grandparents have a difficult time seeing children grow up and start their adult lives.

"It’s a little hard because I watched her being born and now I’m watching her go off to college," said Gladys Dumas who was helping her granddaughter move in.

Some freshmen, they’re nervous for some things, but mostly excited.

"Making sure I get to my classes on time,” said Kaitlyn Heisler who is from Omaha. “I’m kind of excited. I mean it’s a little weird sharing a room with someone but I’m pretty excited."

Once everything is moved in and loved ones say farewell, parents are sure to leave their children with last minute advice.

"Just be yourself. Be relaxed. Enjoy the journey and take it all in because you only go through it one time in life," said Roger.

Dumas had similar sentiments. "My only advice for her is to stay strong and just continue to pray and just enjoy life."
