UPDATE: Teen hit by car, accused of running from police

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — UPDATE: Around noon on Tuesday, investigations with the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) gang unit were looking for a 17-year-old suspected in a weapons violation case.

LPD first attempted to contact the suspect on May 26, but he fled in a stolen 2005 red BMW.

It wasn’t until Tuesday, June 1 that investigators once again spotted the red BMW driving in the area of ‘N’ and S 27th Streets.

After the car parked in the area, LPD saw a male exit the vehicle, walk across 27th Street, and enter a nearby residence.

LPD identified the drivers as the 17-year-old they’ve been looking for. They ran the VIN number on the vehicle and confirmed it was stolen out of Grand Island.

Around 12:30, the suspect left the residence and was walking back towards the BMW when he spotted the investigators.

He began running eastbound, back across 27th Street where he was struck by a southbound vehicle. LPD ran towards the teen and called for medical assistance.

However, the teen got back up and starting running away again, but LPD quickly took him into custody. Police say the teen was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the teen had a loaded Glock handgun with an extended 31 round magazine, $220 cash, and 112 grams of meth on his person.

According to LPD the several felony charges pending against the 17-year-old once he is released from the hospital.
