Hundreds of Lincoln children gathered Wednesday for Lincoln Parks and Rec’s annual Summer Day Play Camp. The event was held at Woods Park and included activities such as swimming and team games.

This is the 40th year for the event. It’s designed to get the children from Lincoln’s various summer camps together for one last big event before the summer ends.

"I like playing with my friends and swimming," said Mira, a 9-year -old.

The play day not only is fun for kids, but also teaches them the importance of teamwork.

"We focus on sportsmanship," said Dorothy Skorupa of Lincoln Parks and Rec. "There is a winner and they have a rock that is a traveling rock and we also have a sportsmanship baton that goes from site to site."

The rock is large, painted gold, and lists years’ past winners.

Last week is the final week of summer camp activities before school starts up again later in the month.
