Here’s where area school districts stand on masks for students

Channel 8 reached out to other area school districts to find out where they stand as far as masking policies for the upcoming school year. 

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Public Schools on Thursday announced masks will be optional for all students, regardless of their vaccination status.

Channel 8 reached out to other area school districts to find out where they stand as far as masking policies for the upcoming school year.

Here are their responses:

York: While a final decision may not be made until mid-July, Superintendent Mitch Bartholomew told Channel 8 the district is leaning toward making masks optional.

Seward: Superintendent Josh Fields told Channel 8 masks will be optional going into the year, but added the policy could change depending on case numbers and other circumstances.

Norris: Parents will receive final back-to-school information from the district before the end of summer, and Superintendent John Schwartz told Channel 8 the district will monitor virus numbers before making a final decision.

Waverly: Superintendent Cory Worrell told Channel 8 students will likely not be required to wear masks, but a final decision hasn’t been made.

Malcolm: The district is in the process of making a decision, and Superintendent Ryan Terwilliger told Channel 8 they will be “in lock step” with the health department on when it comes to a mask policy.
