Leaky pipes at Nebraska State Penitentiary fixed
Water service has been restored to the Nebraska State Penitentiary.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Faculty maintenance and external repair crews at the Nebraska State Penitentiary restored water service to the facility Thursday morning.
The maintenance crews restored water service to all but one housing unit by Wednesday afternoon, according to a NDCS press release.
By Thursday morning, maintenance workers completed all repairs and the Penitentiary returned to normal operations.
NSP initially cut the water off at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday due to leaking pipes, according to the press release.
NSP staff brought in Porta Pottys for staff and inmates to use and also handed out over 9,000 bottles of water to maintain normal operations in the facility.
“It is a situation that predates me, certainly. What made this unique was the cascade effect that resulted when water was turned on again. But, when sections of the pipe are corroded, leaks and joint failures are going to occur,” said NDCS Director Scott R. Frakes.
